Pince William and Kate Middleton

There have been reports that Prince William and Kate Middleton may forgo gifts entirely, directing their wedding attendees to donate to a few select charities. However, our inside source from Brides Magazine tells us that the couple may also be planning to do a gift registry at the mid-range Peter Jones store in London's Sloane Square. "It's a department store that all other young middle-class brides want to register at," we're told. "Makes William and Kate seem 'normal.'" Kate has been known to shop at Peter Jones: recently, she and mother Carole were seen browsing after the holidays at the store.

THE DRESS DESIGNER ???

by Justin Fenner
We won’t know all the details about Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William until April 29, 2011, but some people are already betting (literally betting, and hundreds of dollars at that) that designer Bruce Oldfield will create Kate’s wedding dress.

Oldfield has designed for everyone from Queen Rania of Jordan to Samantha Cameron, wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, but he’s probably best known for designing truckloads of gorgeous gowns for Princess Diana. Also in his favor? He just opened a shiny new bridal couture showroom in London, and his custom dresses command pretty princely prices (the things start at $5,500).
Of course, neither Middleton nor Oldfield will say whether he’ll actually make the dress. Although, about a month ago, the designer got pretty cocky when he heard about the engagement, saying, “If I was lucky enough to be asked, I’d be delighted. I’m already dressing her peers.” Emphasis, for the sake of proving how sure he is of himself, ours.

Kate Picks Wedding Dress Designer, Might Cover Harper’s
by Julia Rubin

Just as we suspected back in December, it looks like our favorite future princess has tapped Bruce Oldfield to design her wedding dress. Or has she? A source tells People that Kate Middleton has settled on a designer, but that she and Prince William wish to keep said designer’s identity under wraps.
So why are we convinced Oldfield snagged the coveted job? Because British tabloid News of the World snapped some pics of Kate (with her mom and sister in tow) popping into his Knightsbridge boutique. The tab reports Kate and co. spent an hour and half at the store, meeting with Oldfield himself. Everyone’s lips are sealed (“It’s Miss Middleton’s intention to keep the dress a secret for her bridegroom on their wedding day, as is every bride’s prerogative,” said a royal spokesperson), but we are taking this as quite a hint. Looks like all those sketches were for naught.
But which glossy magazine will feature the princess first? The Kate cover speculation is almost as rampant as royal wedding dress speculation, and it seems as though Harper’s Bazaar is the front-runner. For one, the mag’s fashion features editor happens to be married to Camilla Bowles Parker’s son. And then there’s this gem, courtesy of Glenda Bailey: “I’m very fortunate to be editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar and, as a result, have lots of people who want to be on the cover. We’re very, very fortunate to have some of the great Kates appear on our cover — Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett. Who knows the future?” What a tease!
